The Refrigerator Maintenance

The refrigerator maintenance tasks you’ve been overlooking can not only cost you money but is a waste of time as well. A refrigerator is an essential and undoubtedly the most used appliance at home.

It is expensive as well, so why don’t we care about its regular clean-up and maintenance? It requires our special attention and care to work properly. A failure in its function will make the day hell, especially during hot summer days.

In this blog, we are sharing some tips and tricks about refrigerator maintenance to keep running your refrigerator smoothly and functioning properly.

Clean In And Out

To avoid costly refrigerator maintenance services keep it clean in and out and its surroundings as well. Dirty and un-hygienic inner parts can cause damage to its cooling fan and other parts. Loose oil & greasy liquid can cause a short circuit and damage to its internal wiring.

We recommend doing a routine cleanup and taking old unused rotten items out of the refrigerator. Keep eye on the expiry dates of meat and foodstuff etc… Clean with fresh water all the vegetables, fruits, and other food/grocery items before saving them in the refrigerator.

Free Up Space Around the Refrigerator

Everything required some sort of space to breathe, our appliances do need that space as well. To keep the refrigerator properly functioning, the condenser coils required fresh and clean air to circulate. The condenser coils are mostly located open on the backside of the fridge.

Dust, debris, pet hairs, and any loose part stuck in these coils will cause more energy consumption and pressure on the compressor. Here are some sidesteps that are required for your refrigerator maintenance;

    • Special coil cleaning materials and sprays are easily available in the market to utilize.
    • Use a normal dusting cloth or vacuum cleaner to clean these coils.
    • Free up space around the refrigerator.
    • Always keep your refrigerator near windows or in an open place so that fresh air circulation can enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator.

Temperature Setting

Food safety is a major concern and requires a maintained temperature. Check and maintain the thermostat in both compartments of the refrigerator.

Temperature setting at 37 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended for the fridge and Zero degrees Fahrenheit in the freezer. Don’t disturb the temperature more often, because it will pressure the compressor.

Cool Down Food Temperature

Hot food in a fridge will increase the inner temperature and will take more time and energy consumption to stabilize it. Cool down food temperature at normal room temperature first and then save it in the refrigerator. It will take only a few minutes so don’t rush hot food to the refrigerator directly.

Keep the Door Close

Our mothers were right, “Keep the door closed”. Keeping the door open will take more time and energy for the compressor to stabilize the inner temperature. Check periodically rubber seals (gasket) between refrigerator doors, a broken seal can cause the leakage of cold air from the refrigerator.

Use normal hot water with detergent along with an old toothbrush to clean all parts of the gasket.

Refrigerator Age

Normally a good refrigerator’s age is between 10 to 14 years maximum. Use modern inverter technology appliances to reduce electricity consumption. A 14-year-old traditional refrigerator consumes three times higher energy compared to the new inverter refrigerator.

Keep It Full

A refrigerator full of foodstuff will require less time to stabilize its temperature. Because existing cold items will keep the inner compartment temperature at a lower level while the door is closed, so, try to fill it up to the maximum capacity.

Proper Electric Connection

Plugin the refrigerator into a properly connected and standard electric socket.  A loose connection socket may cause damage to the electric circuit and that can lead you to call your refrigerator maintenance service provider. Always use only high-tech and better-quality electric equipment to reduce sudden damage.

Use Voltage Stabilizer

Due to unscheduled load shedding and un-stabilized voltages, it is highly recommended to use an upright quality Voltage stabilizer. It can work as a protective shield and save direct malfunction in the Refrigerator.
